Tanya Johnson

Tanya’s journey began in inner-city Detroit, Michigan, where she was raised by her teenage, single mother. With unwavering determination, her mother worked long hours to ensure Tanya could attend a college preparatory high school—paving the way for her to become the first in her family to attend and graduate from college. Tanya’s deep compassion for the marginalized is rooted in her own lived experience of hardship, resilience, and the pursuit of a better future.

Over the years, Tanya has worn many hats—teacher, mentor, tutor, author, and coach—always serving with love, humility, and a heart to uplift others. Global Tendo La Upendo is not just an organization; it is a reflection of Tanya’s values and the transformative principles that have shaped her life. Each Act of Love shared through Global TLU embodies the same spirit that Tanya lives by.

As a dedicated educator, Tanya has inspired countless students across the United States and Uganda by sharing her story and the power of education to break generational cycles. She speaks passionately about how education changed her life—and how it can do the same for others.

Since 2007, Tanya has also been a certified financial planner through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace program. She has guided hundreds of families toward financial freedom by promoting a “cash and carry” mindset and helping them build a more stable future.
